What sets this delivery joint apart?
Oriental Mom has a bunch of offerings that make this cloud kitchen a winner over the rest. Here’s how.
Brilliant packaging and branding
The packaging of Oriental Mom really stands out. It comes in neat paper boxes, tightly packed into intelligent chambers. The branding is adorable as is the mascot. It focuses on conscious packaging with minimal use of plastic. Their accompaniments include a wide variety of sauces and oils to dip your food in, along with chopsticks, forks, spoons and tissue papers. We loved the packaging of the dim sum. The dim sums were delicately placed on a banana leaf base inside a brown paper bag. They were hot and fresh on arrival. Dimsums can be nasty when it comes to retaining their freshness, but these ones travelled really well.
Lip-smacking and subtle food
Pan-Asian food is often misunderstood and too much experimentation can really ruin the experience. However, the food at Oriental Mom is extremely subtle, yet packs all the Oriental flavours to precision. The kitchen is run by Head Chef Vishal Kharel, who has a grand reputation of creating some of Delhi’s leading Chinese food brands like Pan Asian Wok and Berco’s. Everything on the menu boasts of fresh flavours and ingredients which makes the entire culinary experience extremely special.
Easy on the pocket
It’s very hard to find such good Pan-Asian meals without burning a hole in your pocket. While we understand that good quality ingredients and culinary experiences will always come with a cost, Oriental Mom really debunks this by offering prices that aren’t sky-high. The quality of the food is top-notch, but the experience will not cost you a kidney. We have deep admiration and respect for the chain to be able to pull this balance off so effortlessly.
Let’s review the food
The menu at Oriental Mom offers a variety of delicacies under the wide umbrella of Pan Asian cuisine. You can choose from melt-in-the-mouth dim sums, soups, meal bowls, to Hawker Meals that come under the “Indo-Chinese” category.
We started with vegetarian spring rolls and chicken satay. Again, the spring rolls travelled really well and did not even turn a bit soggy till it reached us. Crispy, flaky and a delicious vegetarian mix on the inside, we couldn’t stop dunking and munching this classic appetizer with the spring onion oil. The spring rolls came with a sweet chilli sauce that also was the perfect accompaniment. The chicken satay took us to the streets of Thailand, as it was perfectly soft and flavourful. The marination was a base of peanuts and classic Thai spices, served along with a sweet and spicy peanut sauce. It made for a delicious non-vegetarian appetizer!
Coming to the dim sum, they were the highlight of our meal. Soft, juicy and extremely appetizing, these dim sums were one of the best we have had in the capital at these prices. There, we said it! Every bite of juicy chicken dim sum felt like an explosion of flavours inside the mouth, which will inevitably make you close your eyes and enjoy it. The minced chicken inside the juicy chicken dim sums with scallions, garlic and shallots were too good to be true. We must have finished the entire set in just a few seconds.
We also tried the Prawn Dumplings in Truffle Oil. Another sensational dumpling with huge chunks of prawn in an almost invisible dumpling layer with a generous addition of truffle oil. We also tried their best selling Crystal Vegetables Dumpling. Another spectacular variety, this dumpling managed to have so many flavourful vegetables inside that tiny piece of art, that made it a winner.
For mains, we opted for the Vegetable Fried Rice, Chicken Pad Thai Noodles, Chicken Thai Green Curry, Vegetable Manchurian from the Hawker Meals Category and Nasi Goreng With Satay. The veg Manchurian really stood out, in terms of packaging as well as taste. The Manchurian balls came separately (it tasted like a delicious snack in itself) and the gravy was packed separately. So we had the freedom to serve it up the way we liked, and they were still crunchy. The Manchurian with the vegetable fried rice tasted like a combo in heaven. It was delicate, non-overpowering, yet addictive.
Oriental Mom’s Chicken Pad Thai Noodles was also extremely delicious. They make their noodles in house, which automatically gets highlighted in the quality, taste and texture. The Pad Thai noodles were soft and non-rubbery, with delicious bits of chicken, egg, bean sprouts, tamarind and a perfectly balanced sauce cooked with. The Nasi Goreng With Satay was equally delicious. We loved the fried egg on top and the hint of Kaffir lime leaves in each bite. The Chicken Thai Green Curry was another savoury gem that has the capability of awakening all human senses. It was spicy, flavourful and with a broth that shone bright! A perfect comfort meal with some white rice. Highly recommended!
