Haandiwale: Cooking, delivering, and serving homelike healthy and palatable meals from ‘cloud kitchen’ in Delhi-NCR amidst the COVID-19 pandemic
While some of us are whipping up desserts and baking cakes, and others, cribbing about the never-ending lockdown caused due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there are those who are rising high and carving opportunities for themselves amidst adversities where mankind is under the weather.
One such initiative, by the name of Haandiwale – a cloud kitchen platform – is run by Noida-based millennial entrepreneurs – Kumar Shailendra, Vinod Tarun, Bhavna Chaudhary, and Sneha Thakur – which came to life on July 22nd, 2020. Catering to the locals of Delhi-NCR, the venture – which started off by targeting people in the neighbourhood by providing ready to eat takeaway fresh meals – has since evolved into a bigger and noble initiative.
What prompted the service of cooking, packing, and delivering fresh homely food was the muddled and uncertain situation that had caused job losses and salary cuts of young professionals for the last three to four months. As the COVID-19 numbers continued to mount and the access to authentic, fresh, home-made style food became challenging, the startup Haandiwale gained widespread attention, mostly through repeat customers and word of mouth.
The team focuses on offering meals at highly economical rates, whilst also keeping in mind the fact that hygiene is of paramount importance now more than ever before. Considering the requirement of customers has become a forte of Haandiwale as they use the best quality ingredients, earthen or metal handis, and in-house ground spices to retain its uniqueness. Not only that, all the meals are delivered in mitti handis to keep the food warm and also to reiterate the brand purpose and name – Haandiwale!
Apart from their general menu, Haandiwale boast of their signature dishes, Haandi Mutton Maharaja, Haandi Mutton Bhoona, Litti-Chokha, and Litti Mutton, of which, the former two are slow-cooked in a clay pot for over six to eight hours. What started with an initial investment of Rs. 10,00,000 has now become a multiple-figure generating food venture in a matter of just a few months. Presently, their daily outreach caters to locals from Noida, Delhi, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, and other nearby parts, depending on the order value.
Amidst the ongoing crisis due to the pandemic, it has been close to a month and a half since the kitchen has been serving delicious and healthy food, with expertise in Bihari cuisine, driven by the intent of helping unemployed or underpaid professionals by hiring them as staff members and satisfying the cravings of those who are far away from home or have lack of time to cook daily meals.
“Considering we started a mutton delivery venture in the month of Sawan when most north Indians give up eating non-veg food, the response has been tremendous. With some of the key players in the market as our delivery partners, we are now reaching far and wide. Repeat orders suggest that we are able to retain our food-loving clients. All businesses need patience and diligence and we are no exception, but looking at our organic growth numbers we know we are on the right path,” co-founder Bhavna Chaudhary told us in a gleeful tone.
