Cosmopolitans need no introduction as the cocktail perfect for any occasion, whether a leisurely and long evening in filled with gossip and conversation, or a energy-pumping night out on the town, dancing the night away. The iconic drink was made even more popular over 20 years ago when it became practically a mascot for the good times and modern-day women thanks to the hit television series Sex And The City. And more than two decades later, it’s still as popular as ever. If you love Cosmos and would like to hone your drink making skills at home. Here are some great tips to getting this classic cocktail just right.
The Perfect Cosmopolitan
A Cosmo is, for all practical reasons, a simplified Vodka Sour. The ideal Cosmopolitan is not too sweet and not too sour. The main ingredients are just four: vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice and fresh lime. We recommend you buy the best vodka you can afford for a smooth tasting cosmo. Add in some garnish by way of a thin sliver of orange peel and you are good to go.
The alcohol makes the cocktail so, quite obviously, always go with something high range or the best that fits your budget. You may be tempted to skimp on quality with the reasoning that cocktails mask a lot of the flavour anyway but cheaper vodkas can be harsh and overpowering in delicate drinks like the cosmopolitan.
Use a good triple sec to take your drink to the next level – we like to use Cointreau. And lastly, buy fresh limes to be juiced – avoid the prepackaged stuff as it can lack a certain freshness and zesty punch. Use sweetened cranberry juice or the unsweetened type if you prefer something more tangy and less sugary. However, if you only have unsweetened juice on hand and want some added sweetness don’t hesitate to add in some simple syrup. The orange peel is optional but it does lend a great touch, not just for looks but it also adds a subtle orangey flavour that’s simply delicious and perfectly accentuates the taste of vodka.

Mixing For A Crowd
You can easily make this cocktail ahead of time for a party and leave it in the fridge a few hours prior so you’re all set when your guests arrive. To make a pitcher for four, just quadruple the ingredients and add in everything (except the orange peel garnish) into a jug. Mix well and refrigerate – there’s no need to add ice as it will just water it down. As your guests arrive, pour your cosmos into martini cocktail glasses, garnish with orange peel and serve.
